In 1993, Berj Krikorian was one of thirteen sculptors selected to participate in a three week workshop in Allentown, PA sponsored by Philip and Muriel Berman. All of the works produced were given to the Berman in exchange for free studio space, use of materials, facilities, and studio assistants at what later was dubbed the “Rolls Royce of Workshops.” In the Spring/Summer of 1995, Krikorian’s 'Sparten' was first exhibited at the Grounds For Sculpture along with eighteen other works from the Berman collection. The incessant tool marks that riddle the surface of the work is physical evidence of the effort expended in the creation of this voluptuous, burgeoning volume.
