This installation was inspired by the Odilon Redon painting titled Birth of Venus. Seward Johnson was particularly interested in creating something viewers could discover off the beaten path, as well as creating a piece that would hold a bit of mystery. In order to achieve the unique lighting effects that you see in this work, the sculptor worked closely with a master lighting designer who creates opera and theatrical lighting design in New York as well as around the globe.
