Mike Gyampo frequently incorporates traditional philosophical beliefs from his native West Africa into his sculptures and paintings to convey spiritual and moral messages. Often working with carved wood and some of his work is also made in cast bronze and cement. The composition, shapes, and rhythms of the polished terrazzo seen in 'Just Chillin' were first explored in a smaller cast bronze version entitled 'Innocent'.
