'Madame Butterfly' demonstrates shades of Witkin's early career constructivism combined with his later interest in free-form shapes created through bronze sand casting techniques. 'Madame Butterfly' is associated with the character from Puccini’s beloved opera. The graceful curves of the bronze echo the flowing drapes of a kimono and the triangular portion at top resembles the folds of a fan.
