Gunnar Theel's Ampersand is a companion piece to his other work in the collection, Nature's Laugh. Whereas Nature's Laugh illustrates the dominance of nature over man through the overgrowth of grasses on the top of the sculpture, Ampersand takes an opposite view. With this work, the thin red line of the architectural structure cuts through the foliage, leaving its mark on the landscape surrounding it.
