Peter Reginato was born in Dallas, TX, in 1945. Growing up in California, a formative experience came as a teenager through his involvement in the “hot rod” car culture. This led to an interest in metal and color, and launched the development of his engineering abilities. A scholarship allowed Reginato to study at the San Francisco Art Institute from 1963-66. This was his last formal education in art. According to the artist, all his engineering and sculpture techniques are self-taught except for a vocational school welding course.
